WELCOME TO SLOW FOOD DUBROVNIK CONVIVIUM

Dubrovnik Slow Food Convivium was founded at the beginning of 2011 by the members of two non-governmental associations: Kinookus and Čovjek na Zemlji (Man on Earth).

Convivium is the local chapter of Slow Food in the region in charge for spreading the movement's philosophy through close relations with local government, education facilities/schools, guild, and non-government organizations. Convivium aims to help and support small traditional producers (local farmers), educate the youth about healthy eating and environment protection, as well as to protect local gastronomic heritage.

In the first few months of operation Slow Food Dubrovnik will, above all else, attempt to gather producers from Konavle, Primorje, and from the islands of Dubrovnik-Neretva County as they fit in the movement philosophy through their growing practices. The end goal is creating of a network that will enable contact with the buyers which Slow Food defines as co-producers.

What is Slow Food?

Slow Food is a global, grassroots organization with supporters in 150 countries around the world who are linking the pleasure of good food with a commitment to their community and the environment.

A non-profit member-supported association, Slow Food was founded in 1989 to counter the rise of fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.

Today, we have over 100,000 members joined in 1,300 convivia – our local chapters – worldwide, as well as a network of 2,000 food communities who practice small-scale and sustainable production of quality foods.

What We Do?

Slow Food develops projects, events and activities all around the world and at all levels - by convivia at the community level and by Slow Food offices at the regional and global level. It has adopted innovative approaches to:

Defend Food Biodiversity
Develop Networks
Food and Taste Education
Connecting Producers and Consumers
