The President of the Republic of Croatia Ivo Josipović extended his support to the manifestation Terra Madre Balkan that in the organisation of the Kinookus Association, Ministry of Agriculture, Slow Food and numerous national and international partners is taking place in Dubrovnik from June 19th to June 22nd 2014.

Terra Madre Balkan is the most important event in the Region regarding sustainable and traditional agriculture and fishery, rural development and protection of traditional products as well as traditional know-how and skills. It is important to stress that Dubrovnik is its host in the very year proclaimed by the United Nations as the year of small-scale farmers.

In the endorsement letter addressed to the Project Manager and Vice-President of the Kinookus Association, Ivo Kara-Pešić, President Josipović stated the following:

“I welcome the organizing of the manifestation Terra Madre Balkan since it promotes Croatian agriculture, tradition and cultural heritage of the rural areas that economically, socially as well as culturally are an important segment of Croatian economy. I strongly believe that your manifestation shall point out the importance of comprehensive development of rural areas following the example of European countries as well as popularize principles of sustainable development and thus contribute to stronger competitiveness of agricultural production thus creating higher income for agricultural producers.

Such manifestations aimed to interregional and international cooperation and to advocating of European agricultural policies are welcome and above all, needed. Therefore, I would like to express my support to the Terra Madre Balkan Project hoping it will receive necessary support from competent institutions and achieve targeted goals.”

The manifestation will taking place at the University of Dubrovnik Campus. On its agenda there are conferences, roundtable discussions and workshops as well as a market of traditional products. It will bring together over 150 Slow Food delegates from 10 countries of the Region as well as VIP guests and officials from ministries, the City of Dubrovnik, The Dubrovnik-Neretva County, the European Commission and FAO.

Terra Madre Balkan is to date being supported by the City of Dubrovnik, the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, The Ministry of Agriculture and the University of Dubrovnik. The manifestation is co-financed by European Commission.
